Andrew Dimsey commenced practice in 1996 and initially developed
a practice in workers compensation and industrial accidents
claims.
In 1998 he relocated to Perth and developed expertise in
handling public liability and asbestos disease claims with another
firm of lawyers. He has handled hundreds of claims for victims of
asbestos diseases and litigated claims in Western Australia, South
Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania.
Because of his wide range of experience Andrew has developed skills
in maximising legal entitlements by bringing claims under the most
advantageous system.
In addition to asbestos disease claims Andrew has handled many
other occupational disease claims including claims for workers
injured by welding fumes, passive smoking, wood dust, talc powder,
silica and rubber fumes.
After joining Maurice Blackburn in 2002 Andrew was appointed as
Principal in 2004. Since then, Andrew has been the National
Practice Leader for the Asbestos Practice. In 2006, he was
appointed as Practice Leader for the Public Liability practice.
Because of his close contact with the victims, and families of
victims of asbestos diseases, Andrew is passionate about fighting
for their compensation rights. He has also been involved in
successful lobbying for legislative changes to advance the rights
of victims of asbestos diseases.
Andrew is also a member of the Asbestos Information and Support
Service (AISS), GARDS (Gippsland Asbestos Related Disease Support
Inc) and the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand.
Andrew is in demand by media outlets to provide commentary
on a range of legal topics. He currently answers
readers' legal questions in the Herald Sun newspaper and
also writes a
weekly legal blog for News Limited.
