Jenny Tallis is a commercial litigator with over 20 years
experience working in a wide range of commercial disputes in medium
to large law firms in Sydney, Adelaide and London.
Jenny joined the Major Projects team of Maurice Blackburn in
December 2007 and is currently working on the OZ Minerals class
action.
Her experience includes the conduct of numerous trade practices,
contractual, Corporations Act, banking, professional indemnity and
insurance related disputes for a client base which has ranged from
small business operators to large Australian publicly listed and
multi-national corporations.
Her experience in large scale litigation includes:
- acting for groups of plaintiffs in complex franchise
disputes;
- acting for numerous farmers in foreign exchange litigation
against banks;
- managing over 70 multiple Corporations Act claims for a
liquidator;
- professional negligence claims against lawyers and real
estate agents; and
- a $300 million dollar Federal Court patent damages
dispute.
Jenny's experience in class action litigation since joining the
firm in 2007 includes:
- a shareholder class action against the
AWB over the oil-for-food kickback scandal. The case for over
1300 shareholders settled in March 2010 for $39.5m - the fourth
largest settlement achieved to that date in a shareholder class
action; and
- a class action against
OZ Minerals for over 1600 shareholders who lost millions
when the company failed to disclose its obligation to
refinance US$560 million of US loans at the height of the
GFC. This case was settled (subject to court approval) in May
2011 for $35.1m plus costs.
